MUSKY
This species is known throughout the country as "The fish of a thousand casts”. We know them as "The fish of many hours of trolling”. Muskies in Raystown Lake prefer depths of 20'. Smaller Muskies are caught shallower around flats and weed beds. Bigger Muskies can be in the 50-55” range and weigh over 40 lbs. These fish will take a large bait but will not feed often. We try to provoke a bite by trolling in high percentage areas looking for a reaction bite. Live bait can be used during a few months of the year. Mid day high sun trolling is common.
We have several species of the musky family. Muskies are native to the river and lake. Tiger muskies are often stocked in the lake. Tiger muskies have several prominent lateral bars and are the most commonly seen around weed beds in shallow water or caught by bass fisherman.
