BASS

Raystown Lake has a healthy population of both Smallmouth and Largemouth bass. The Smallmouth fishery is some of the best around. Smallmouth bass can be regularly taken from 4 – 7 lbs. Some out of season catches have weighed more than 8 lbs in the field and released immediately. These fish can be caught in a wide variety of methods with all your typical bass lures. The largest bass are most consistently caught on live bait. These fish may suspend over standing timber in 60 feet of water or be tight to the bottom at 25 feet.

We do encourage catch and release to protect these large fish and give them the chance to reproduce. There is no stocking program in place for Raystown Lake. Unlike other species caught to consume, these fish are the focus of weekend anglers and targeted in hobby events. Trophy Guide Service has shared with the local anglers in replacing and creating structure to assist in a future population. Make sure you bring a good camera and are familiar with how to use it. Chances are, you will catch the largest Smallmouth of your life.
